Permanent Anchors

The capacity of each anchor should be verified prior to commencing work. The capacity may be verified by pull testing or torque testing. The capacity of each anchor should be verified within 24 months to commencing work.

OSHA

In 1991 after several fatalities because of derrick collapses caused by the failure of temporary anchors in the Oil well Drilling and well services industry. OSHA contacted Sigma Associates to develop guidelines for rig anchoring which is in consensus with the AOSC, IADC. And API. Since OSHA had no applicable standards, there field offices they were unable to adequately address the problem. OSHA adopted API recommended practices.

API RP4G Responsibilities

Wellsite Owner/Operator

The well site owner/operator is responsible for installing anchors at each well site.

Rig Contractor

The Rig Contractor is responsible for insuring anchor capacities are verified prior to attaching guy wires to the anchors. Verifying anchor spacing and capacity that is suitable for the mast-guying pattern and anticipated loading.

Temporary Anchors

Insuring anchors have been properly installed and pulled or torque tested prior to rigging up.

Permanent Anchors

Insuring anchor capacity verification is less than 24 months old prior to rigging up. Inspecting anchors for damage or deterioration prior to rigging up.

We install anchors at each well site in accordance with API, AESC, and IADC recommendations and applicable state and federal laws. We testing anchor capacity every 2 years. We maintain anchor verification records. We replace anchors that are damaged or deteriorated or fail anchor capacity verification.
